I get it, choosing the right security for your vehicle is a minefield. Autowatch Ghost, Scorpion S5 plus, and Metatrak Deadlock are all words and products you may of heard of. Maybe some of your friends have one of these fitted but which is right for your car? There is really no one-size-fits-all solution for security. Plus the thing that most companies who are selling to you won’t tell you is security is a hassle. Wether its entering a code or carrying a tag security is an inconvenience. That said its less of an inconvenience than waking up and finding your car has been stolen.

Which is better for me? A tag system or a code-based system?

It really all depends. Due to how the canbus immobilisers (code-based) work not every button can be used to enter the code. Some cars have limited button choices. So with the Autowatch Ghost or Scorpion X you can have as little as three buttons to choose from. Some of these buttons may even be High Beam which lets be honest... shouts out to the world that you have security fitted to your vehicle. In situations like this a tag-based system like the Meta Autoblock or the Moving Intelligence S5 Ultimate could be the way to go.

What’s a better option for me a Ghost Immobilser or a Scorpion X

It all depends. I have been fitting these devices since the inception of the idea. Ghost is great. Its well known and a lot more popular. I have noticed now that the Scorpion X product is catching up with the compatibility. Quite often, the Scorpion X has more button choices for the code to disarm

BMW newer than 2024 require a dual CAN setup. It needs a Ghost Pro or a Scorpion X. Both options stop the vehicle from going into gear and use similar buttons. The scorpion X will offer more button choices as you can use your window switches. With Scorpion X being a more price-effective solution its certainly worth a thought.

Tag based immobiliser systems- Is a tracker worth it?

The tag based systems generally come in two types. Ones with a tracker like a Metatrak Deadlock or a Moving Intelligence S5 Ultimate and ones without a tracker like a Meta Autoblock or a Pandora Storm. If you have the budget to go for the tracking options you get a lot more bang for your buck. You get the real-time tracking support of the control centre should the worst happen. However from the view of stopping a vehicle from starting both options will keep your vehicle on the driveway where it belongs.
